Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9x13-inch pan.

  2. In one bowl, combine flour, semolina, and baking powder.

  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar, then beat in egg yolks, vanilla extract, and lemon zest.

  4. Gradually add the flour mixture, alternating with milk, to the wet ingredients on low speed.

  5. Beat egg whites with salt until soft peaks form, then gently fold them into the batter.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until golden.

  7. For the syrup, bring water, sugar, and orange zest to a boil, simmer for 5 minutes, then add lemon juice and cool.

  8. Pour the cooled syrup over the warm cake.

  9. Optionally, sprinkle with powdered sugar, cinnamon, or almonds once the cake has cooled.
