Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 400 F.
-
Combine water, yeast, and sugar in a small bowl; let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
-
Sift 2 cups of flour with salt into a mixer, then stir in the yeast mixture. Add 1/2 cup of flour at a time until the dough is smooth and not sticky.
-
Divide the dough into 2 balls; place one in an oiled bowl in a warm spot to rise until doubled, and freeze the other.
-
Start boiling a large pot of water; add fresh lasagna noodles and simmer for 3 minutes.
-
Strain noodles, toss with 1 tablespoon oil, and allow them to cool.
-
Roll the risen dough ball into a rectangle on a floured surface and place it onto an oiled baking sheet.
-
Layer lasagna noodles, sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, and basil lengthwise down the dough's center, repeating once, and finishing with mozzarella and basil.
-
Fold the dough over the filling, pinch the ends closed, and place it seam-side down on the baking pan.
-
Make several shallow diagonal slashes on top of the loaf with an oiled, sharp knife.
-
Melt butter, then combine it with minced garlic and oregano.
-
Brush the garlic butter mixture onto the dough.
-
Bake for 17 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly and serve.
