German Chocolate Upside Down Cake

A simple German chocolate cake featuring pecans, coconut, and a cream cheese topping, baked upside-down for convenience.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C); grease and flour a 9x3x2-inch baking pan.

  2. Evenly sprinkle coconut and pecans into the bottom of the prepared pan.

  3. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions, then pour the batter over the coconut and pecans.

  4. Beat cream cheese, butter, and confectioners' sugar until blended, then drop spoonfuls of this mixture over the cake batter.

  5. Place the baking pan on a larger baking pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Cool the cake in the pan on a rack.

  7. To serve, cut into pieces, invert onto dessert plates, and remove from the pan.
