German Cherry Cake

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 390 F (200 C).

  2. Beat butter until fluffy, then beat in sifted powdered sugar and lemon zest.

  3. Sift flour and baking powder together; incorporate half into the butter mixture.

  4. Add eggs and beat until the batter is smooth.

  5. Mix in the remaining flour, then sour cream, until the thick batter is smooth.

  6. Line a 9x13-inch pan with parchment, oil, and flour; spread the batter about 3/4 inch deep.

  7. Arrange cherries thickly on top of the batter, ensuring some batter remains visible.

  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.

  9. Remove from the oven and sift powdered sugar over the warm cake.
