Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and lightly butter a 1½-quart baking dish.

  2. Combine peaches, brown sugar, almond extract, and nutmeg; spread this mixture into the prepared dish.

  3. Whisk flour, baking powder, and granulated sugar together in a medium bowl.

  4. Cut butter into the flour mixture until coarse crumbs form.

  5. Combine milk, buttermilk, and egg in a separate small bowl, then add this liquid to the flour mixture until just combined.

  6. Drop spoonfuls of the sticky dough over the peach mixture.

  7. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden and juices are bubbling.

  8. Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes, then loosen the biscuit from the pan sides and transfer to a serving platter.

  9. Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream.
