Figs In Spiced Syrup

Preserve fresh figs by simmering them in a richly spiced sugar syrup, extending their shelf life.

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and 1 cup water in a medium saucepan, bringing to a simmer while stirring to dissolve the sugar.

  2. Add cinnamon and any other desired spices to the syrup; simmer for 10 minutes.

  3. Trim fig stems, then add figs to the simmering syrup and cook for 5 minutes.

  4. Remove figs from the syrup and cool the figs and syrup separately for 15 minutes.

  5. Strain the cooled syrup, discard the spices, and pour the syrup back over the figs.
