Figs in Brandy Recipe (Higos al Brandy)

Instructions

  1. Rinse figs and place in a large pot.

  2. Combine 2 cups of water with sugar; add to pot. Add more water to cover figs, then bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20-30 minutes until syrup thickens. Cool.

  3. Grate orange zest. In a small saucepan, combine cinnamon, zest, brandy, and sherry. Heat on low, stirring, until boiling, then remove.

  4. Transfer figs to a serving dish; reserve cooking syrup.

  5. Pour brandy sauce over figs, then drizzle with 4-6 spoonfuls of reserved syrup.

  6. Marinate figs at room temperature for at least one hour.

  7. Optionally, garnish with whipped cream and almond slivers before serving.
