Fig Crostini

Toasted baguette slices topped with fresh figs, balsamic vinegar, and black pepper create an easy, delicious appetizer, with optional cheese.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

  2. Slice the baguette into 12 thin pieces.

  3. Rinse, dry, trim, and chop the figs.

  4. In a bowl, combine chopped figs with vinegar, pepper, and salt; let sit for at least 15 minutes at room temperature or up to 1 hour covered in the fridge.

  5. Brush baguette slices with olive oil, place on a baking sheet, and toast for 7 minutes, flipping once, until lightly golden.

  6. Taste the fig mixture and adjust seasoning, then top each toasted baguette slice with the fig mixture.

  7. If using goat cheese, spread 1 tablespoon on each slice before adding figs; if using blue cheese, crumble it over the fig mixture.

  8. Serve immediately.
