Elderberry Syrup Recipe

A flavorful spiced elderberry syrup that serves as a versatile topping for desserts or an addition to tea, prepared from fresh, frozen, or dried berries.

Instructions

  1. Inspect elderberries and remove any debris.

  2. Combine the cleaned berries and water in a pan, bring to a gentle boil, then simmer for 20 minutes.

  3. During simmering, press the berries every 5 minutes with a spoon or masher to extract their juice.

  4. Pour the mixture through a cheesecloth-lined sieve, then firmly press and squeeze the berries to extract all juice; discard the solids.

  5. Transfer the juice to a clean pan, add honey, lemon, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon.

  6. Simmer for approximately 15 minutes until the syrup thickens.

  7. Strain the syrup again and pour into a sterilized jar.
