Eierlikoer German Egg Liqueur

A simple German eggnog liqueur, Eierlikoer, combines brandy and vanilla for a festive holiday drink.

Instructions

  1. Heat milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla bean to 160 F.

  2. Beat egg yolks, then temper them by slowly whisking in some of the hot milk mixture.

  3. Gradually add the tempered egg yolks to the milk mixture, stirring continuously.

  4. Stir over low heat for 5-10 minutes, maintaining 160 F (70 C).

  5. Remove from heat, cool slightly, then mix in both alcohols until combined.

  6. Strain through a sieve into a container, discarding the vanilla bean and any solids.

  7. Refrigerate overnight before serving.
