Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 F.

  2. Whisk eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a bowl, then stir in warm milk.

  3. Cut bread into triangles and arrange two layers in a lightly buttered 8-inch square baking dish.

  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread.

  5. Place the smaller baking dish into a larger dish containing 1/2 to 1 inch of hot water.

  6. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. Serve warm or cool with your preferred topping.
