Instructions

  1. Melt candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.

  2. Snip straws into thirds, then seal one end of each straw completely with aluminum foil.

  3. Transfer the melted coating to a piping bag with a small snipped hole and fill each prepared straw.

  4. Stand filled straws upright in a cup and refrigerate for a minimum of 20 minutes until thoroughly chilled.

  5. Use a dowel or skewer to push the candy chalk sticks out of the straws.

  6. Dust a work surface with cocoa powder, then roll black fondant to 1/8-inch thickness or less.

  7. Cut fondant shapes using your cookie cutter, ensuring one piece for each cookie.

  8. Brush each cookie with a thin layer of light corn syrup, then press a fondant plaque onto it.

  9. Optionally, dust the finished cookie chalkboards with powdered sugar for a realistic texture.

  10. Write on the cookie chalkboards with the candy chalk; store any extras in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
