Instructions

  1. Combine 1 1/4 cups skim milk, 10 tablespoons heavy cream, the clove-studded onion, and bay leaf in a large saucepan.

  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes to infuse flavors.

  3. Discard the bay leaf and remove the onion.

  4. Gradually stir 1 1/4 cups breadcrumbs into the pan until the sauce thickens and achieves a slightly textured consistency.
