Easy Tomato Ketchup

A homemade ketchup closely replicates commercial flavor using tomato paste as its base for a convenient preparation.

Instructions

  1. Combine tomato paste, brown sugar, 1/2 cup water, white wine, onion powder, garlic powder, ground mustard, salt, ground cinnamon, ground allspice, and optional ground cloves and cayenne pepper in a small pot.

  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently.

  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring often and adding more water if it becomes too thick.

  4. If the ketchup is too thin, increase heat to medium-high and cook, stirring constantly, until it thickens to the desired consistency.

  5. Turn off heat, cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to clean glass jars.

  6. Cover and store in the refrigerator for up to one month.
