Easy Rich Onion Gravy

Instructions

  1. Melt oil and butter in a large saucepan over gentle heat.

  2. Add thinly sliced onions, stir, cover, and cook on low heat for 10 minutes until soft and translucent.

  3. Stir in sugar and balsamic vinegar, cover, and cook for 5 more minutes.

  4. Pour in beef stock, stir, then increase heat and gently boil uncovered for 5 minutes.

  5. In a separate container, combine cornstarch with cold water to form a smooth paste.

  6. Whisk a small amount of hot gravy into the cornstarch mixture, then return it to the pan.

  7. Increase heat to high and boil for 10 minutes, or until the gravy slightly thickens.

  8. Season with salt and pepper, then keep warm until serving.
