Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

  2. Pour melted butter or oil into a 9x13x2-inch pan or two 8-inch round pans; sprinkle brown sugar evenly.

  3. Drain peaches, reserving syrup. Arrange sliced peaches and optional cherries over the brown sugar.

  4. Combine reserved peach syrup (with water to make 1 1/3 cups total liquid), eggs, and cake mix; beat as package directs.

  5. Pour batter over fruit. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until cake pulls from sides.

  6. Let stand for 5 minutes, then invert onto a serving dish. Serve warm.
