Easy Homemade Orgeat Syrup Recipe
A homemade nutty, floral almond syrup, perfect for sweetening cocktails like the mai tai, is simple to prepare.

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400 F.

Spread almonds on a baking sheet and toast for 4 minutes; cool for 5 minutes.

Coarsely chop the cooled almonds in a food processor.

Soak chopped almonds in warm water for 1 to 3 hours, adjusting for desired flavor strength.

Strain the liquid from the soaked almonds using a fine-mesh strainer and cheesecloth, squeezing until the pulp is dry.

Gently warm the almond liquid in a saucepan over medium-low heat.

Whisk in sugar, stirring for 3 minutes until dissolved, then remove from heat.

Strain the syrup through two layers of cheesecloth, then stir in orange flower water and any optional brandy, vodka, or citric acid.

Once cooled, bottle the syrup with a tight-sealing lid, refrigerate, and shake before use.
