Instructions

  1. Start boiling 3 cups water with 1 cup sugar in a saucepan, stirring until dissolved.

  2. Remove from heat and cool the sugar syrup completely.

  3. Blend the cooled syrup with 4 cups chopped cantaloupe until smooth, adding fruit juice if using an alternative fruit.

  4. Transfer the mixture to a container, cover, and chill for 2 hours.

  5. Process the chilled mixture in a 1-gallon ice cream maker according to its instructions.
