Easy Cherry Sauce

A simple cherry sauce, made with either fresh or frozen fruit, serves as a versatile topping for ice cream, cheesecakes, and other desserts.

Instructions

  1. If using fresh cherries, wash, stem, and pit them.

  2. In a medium saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, and water, initially using half the water for frozen cherries; bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring often.

  3. In a small bowl, thoroughly mix lemon juice and cornstarch.

  4. Whisk the cornstarch mixture into the boiling cherry mixture.

  5. If using frozen cherries, add one tablespoon of water at a time if the sauce is too thick.

  6. Return the sauce to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook for about one minute until thickened.

  7. Remove from heat, adjust sugar or lemon juice to taste, and allow the sauce to cool completely before use.
