Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F (205 C) and grease and flour a baking sheet.

  2. Sift flour into a mixing bowl, then add butter, baking powder, salt, and optional sugar.

  3. Rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

  4. Create a well, then stir in beaten eggs and enough milk to form a soft, pliable dough.

  5. Turn dough onto a floured board, knead lightly until smooth, then roll to 3/4-inch thick.

  6. Cut 3-inch rounds, place on the prepared tray, and brush with the egg and milk mixture.
