Easy British Fish Pie

British fish pie, also known as fisherman's pie, features a creamy fish and leek filling topped with fluffy mashed potatoes, ideal for a satisfying lunch or dinner.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 355 F/180 C.

  2. Bring fish stock and milk to a gentle simmer in a large saucepan.

  3. Add fish pieces and a bay leaf; poach for 5 minutes. Remove fish with a slotted spoon, reserving the liquid in the pot.

  4. Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Sauté sliced leek for 5 minutes until soft.

  5. Stir in flour for 2 minutes.

  6. Gradually add the reserved fish poaching liquid, stir, and cook for 3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  7. Turn off the heat, remove the bay leaf, then stir in the poached fish and chopped parsley; season with salt and pepper.

  8. Transfer the fish mixture to an ovenproof dish and top with a thick layer of mashed potatoes.

  9. Optionally sprinkle with grated cheese.

  10. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes until the sauce bubbles beneath the potatoes, then serve immediately.
