Start boiling 1/2 inch of lightly salted water in a large skillet or Dutch oven while you rinse and cut 1 medium head of cabbage into 6 wedges.

Add cabbage wedges and 1/2 teaspoon salt to the boiling water; simmer, covered, for 5 to 7 minutes until softened.

Turn the cabbage, then continue simmering for another 5 minutes until tender.

Drain the water; return the pan to low heat and cook, uncovered, until moisture evaporates.
