Preheat the oven to 400 F.

In an ovenproof saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic for 4-5 minutes until translucent, then add rice and cook for another 4-5 minutes.

Stir in broth, basil, salt, and pepper, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Cover the pan with foil and its lid, then transfer to the oven.

Bake for 20 minutes. Remove, stir, then re-cover and bake for another 5 minutes. Check rice for doneness; if needed, bake covered for an additional 5-10 minutes.

Once done, stir in cheese and butter. Cover and let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
