Dulce de Leche Candy

A rich, creamy caramelized milk candy can be prepared from sweetened condensed milk using either a stovetop or slow cooker method.

Instructions

  1. Remove the label and any adhesive from an unopened can of sweetened condensed milk.

  2. Place the can in a large saucepan, ensuring it is several inches taller than the can, then cover the can completely with water.

  3. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat, then cover and continue boiling for 8 hours, checking every 30 minutes and adding water as needed to keep the can fully submerged.

  4. Carefully remove the hot can with tongs and allow it to cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.

  5. Once chilled, open both ends of the can and gently push out the solidified caramel.

  6. Slice the caramel cylinder into rounds, then cut each round into 6 wedges.

  7. For added crunch, roll pieces in chopped nuts, crushed toffee, or shredded coconut; otherwise, place in individual candy papers for serving.
