Dried Fruit Compote

Instructions

  1. Place dried prunes, apricots, and golden raisins in a medium saucepan, cover with water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. Stir in sugar, lemon peel, whole cloves, and ground allspice; ensure sugar dissolves, adding water if dry.

  3. Simmer uncovered for 10-15 minutes until fruit softens and syrup thickens.

  4. Remove and discard lemon peel and cloves.

  5. Chill for several hours, then serve, optionally garnished with chopped walnuts.
