Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven or warming drawer to 200F, then heat 2.5 to 3 inches of oil in a deep pan or fryer to 360-370F.

  2. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add milk and egg to the dry ingredients, beating until the batter is smooth.

  4. Fold the chopped apple into the batter.

  5. Drop batter by teaspoonfuls into the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes until golden brown; avoid overcrowding the pan.

  6. Drain cooked fritters on paper towels and keep warm in the oven while frying remaining batches.

  7. Roll the warm fritters in confectioners' sugar before serving.
