Instructions

  1. Heat bacon fat in a large skillet or Dutch oven; sauté onions 8-10 minutes until lightly colored.

  2. Stir in bacon and cook 5 minutes until lightly browned.

  3. Add cabbage and caraway seeds; mix well.

  4. Cover and cook 5 minutes over medium heat.

  5. Incorporate vinegar, water, salt, sugar, and pepper.

  6. Bring to a boil, then cover tightly and simmer 45-60 minutes on low, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender. Add water as needed.
