Cuban White Bean Soup

Cuban white bean soup offers a hearty blend of navy beans, pork, and traditional seasonings.

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the soaked white beans.

  2. In a large pot, combine the beans, water, bay leaves, salt pork, and ham hocks; bring to a boil.

  3. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours.

  4. Remove and discard the salt pork.

  5. Take out the ham hocks, shred the meat, and return it to the pot, discarding fat and bones.

  6. Heat oil in a skillet, then sauté onions and garlic until soft (about 5 minutes).

  7. Stir the sautéed mixture into the soup along with oregano, cumin, and salt and pepper to taste.

  8. Simmer for 15 more minutes before serving.
