Crockpot Caramelized Onions
Slow-cooked caramelized onions, prepared in a slow cooker, add fragrant depth to soups, stews, and sandwiches.

Peel whole onions, trim the top and bottom, but do not slice or separate them into rings.

Place the prepared whole onions in a 4-6 quart slow cooker and top with butter or olive oil. Cook on low for 9-11 hours (7-8 hours for newer models).

Stir the cooked onions until they break apart, then cool for 20 minutes before serving, or cool completely and store them in an airtight container.
