Crockpot Caramelized Onions

Instructions

  1. Peel whole onions, trim the top and bottom, but do not slice or separate them into rings.

  2. Place the prepared whole onions in a 4-6 quart slow cooker and top with butter or olive oil. Cook on low for 9-11 hours (7-8 hours for newer models).

  3. Stir the cooked onions until they break apart, then cool for 20 minutes before serving, or cool completely and store them in an airtight container.
