Crock Pot Fresh Black-Eyed Peas With Bacon Recipe

Rinse and drain the black-eyed peas, then place them into a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker.

Dice bacon and cook it in a large skillet over medium heat until softened and fat renders. Add chopped onion, bell peppers, and celery; cook until tender, then stir in garlic for one minute.

Transfer the cooked bacon-vegetable mixture and water to the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on low for 5 to 7 hours, or until peas are tender.

Stir in tomatoes, chili powder, salt, pepper, and oregano; cook for 1 to 2 hours more.
