Crock Pot Cincinnati Chili (aka Skyline Chili)

A slow cooker Cincinnati-style chili, spicy and flavorful, is traditionally served over spaghetti with layered toppings.

Instructions

  1. Create a cheesecloth bag containing whole allspice, cloves, and a bay leaf.

  2. Brown ground beef in a large skillet, drain thoroughly, and transfer to a slow cooker.

  3. Add beef stock, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, chopped onion, chili powder, garlic, kosher salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, red pepper, cocoa, Worcestershire sauce, and the spice bag to the slow cooker.

  4. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours; add drained kidney beans during the final hour of cooking.

  5. Approximately 15 minutes before the chili is done, boil salted water and cook spaghetti according to package directions, then drain.

  6. Serve chili over the hot spaghetti, topped with chopped onions and shredded cheese.
