Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples.

  2. Place apple slices, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cloves into a slow cooker.

  3. Cook covered on low for 8 hours or on high for 3.5 to 4 hours.

  4. Stir in vanilla extract, then cook uncovered on high for 1 additional hour.

  5. Purée the mixture until smooth using an immersion blender or by transferring it to a food processor or blender.

  6. Transfer the finished apple butter into jars or freezer containers.
