Croatian Bean Soup (Grah i Varivah)
A hearty Croatian bean stew, enriched with smoked meats and sausage, offers a thick and savory meal.

Instructions

Drain and rinse the soaked beans.

Place beans in a large pot with 12 cups cold water and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to a simmer and skim off any surface foam.

Stir in garlic, onion, smoked sausage, smoked ribs or ham hocks, bay leaf, salt, pepper, and Vegeta.

Return to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer, partially covered, for 2-3 hours, or until tender; add water and stir occasionally.

Remove the bay leaf, debone the meat, and return the meat to the pot.

Continue simmering if a thicker consistency is desired.
