Creamy Baked Ziti With Sausage and Peppers

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

  2. Cook ziti as directed, then drain.

  3. Grease a 2 1/2-quart casserole.

  4. Brown sausage in a skillet over medium heat, drain, and set aside.

  5. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add mushrooms, green bell pepper, and onion; cook until tender.

  6. Stir flour into the vegetables until blended and bubbly, cooking for 1 to 2 minutes. Gradually add milk, cooking until the mixture boils and thickens.

  7. Reduce heat. Stir in 1 1/2 cups cheddar, Parmesan, and pepper until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth.

  8. Combine the cooked ziti and sausage with the sauce.

  9. Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole, topping with the remaining 1/2 cup cheddar.

  10. Bake for 30 minutes, or until hot and bubbly.
