Copycat KFC Recipe

Instructions

  1. Heat the lard to 365 F in a Dutch oven or pressure fryer.

  2. Combine egg and buttermilk in a bowl, then soak the chicken pieces.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk flour with salt, sage, pepper, paprika, oregano, onion salt, marjoram, dried basil, chili powder, garlic powder, and MSG seasoning.

  4. Remove chicken from the buttermilk mixture, then roll each piece thoroughly in the seasoned flour.

  5. Carefully lower 4 chicken pieces into the hot oil; if using a pressure fryer, lock the lid.

  6. Fry for 8 to 10 minutes until the chicken is golden brown and fully cooked.

  7. If using a pressure fryer, release pressure as directed, then transfer the cooked chicken to a rack or paper towels to drain.

  8. Repeat the frying process with the remaining 2 pieces of chicken.
