Colombian Buñuelos

Crispy Colombian buñuelos, a traditional holiday treat, are prepared by frying dough and coating it in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish for the topping.

  2. Sift flour and baking powder.

  3. Cream sugar and oil or butter; then mix in egg, milk, and masa harina.

  4. Gradually add sifted flour mixture, mixing until dough forms.

  5. Form dough into 1 1/2-inch spheres or flat cakes.

  6. Heat vegetable oil in a saucepan.

  7. Fry dough forms 6-7 minutes until golden brown, turning as needed.

  8. Drain fried buñuelos on paper towels.

  9. Toss hot buñuelos in the sugar-cinnamon mixture to coat.

  10. Serve warm.
