Instructions

  1. Heat 3 tablespoons olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Sauté 1 finely chopped large onion for 7 minutes until tender, then add 2 minced garlic cloves and cook until fragrant.

  3. Incorporate 2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes, 3 tablespoons tomato paste, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1/2 teaspoon dried basil, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if desired. Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt and black pepper, then bring to a simmer.

  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens. Adjust seasoning as needed.
