Classic Sugar Cookies

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Cream butter, sugar, and salt in a stand mixer.

  3. Blend in the egg, milk, and vanilla.

  4. Sift cake flour and baking powder together in a separate bowl.

  5. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.

  6. Form the dough into a thick round, wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.

  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll the chilled dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

  8. Cut out cookies and place them on an ungreased baking sheet.

  9. If not icing, brush cookies with milk and sprinkle with sugar.

  10. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.

  11. Transfer warm cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
