Classic Southern Baked Apples

A warm dessert, these baked apples feature a spiced raisin filling and are ideal served with whipped cream or ice cream.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F (180C).

  2. Wash, core, and peel a 1-inch strip around each apple's middle, then arrange them in a 2-quart baking dish.

  3. Combine brown sugar, raisins, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Fill each apple's center with this mixture and top with 1/2 teaspoon butter.

  4. Add water to the baking dish to cover the bottom. Bake uncovered for 45-60 minutes, or until apples are tender, basting occasionally.

  5. Serve apples warm, optionally with whipped cream.
