Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F (190 C) and butter a 2-quart baking dish.

  2. Arrange one-third of the potato slices in the dish.

  3. Combine flour with salt and pepper, then sprinkle half the mixture over the potatoes.

  4. Repeat with another layer of potatoes and the remaining flour mixture, then add the final potato layer.

  5. Dot the top with butter and pour hot milk over the potatoes.

  6. Cover the dish and bake for 45 minutes, or until the potatoes are just tender.

  7. Uncover, sprinkle with shredded cheese, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the potatoes are tender.
