Classic Sazerac Cocktail

A New Orleans classic, the Sazerac cocktail combines rye whiskey, sugar, bitters, and absinthe for a timeless drink.

Instructions

  1. Chill an old-fashioned glass with ice.

  2. In a mixing glass, muddle 1 sugar cube with 3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters.

  3. Add 2 ounces rye whiskey to the mixing glass and stir.

  4. Discard ice from the chilled glass, then rinse it with 1/4 ounce absinthe or anise liqueur, discarding the liquid.

  5. Pour the whiskey mixture into the rinsed glass.

  6. Squeeze a lemon twist over the drink; discard it or place it on the rim as garnish.
