Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 F and prepare a 12-cup bundt or 10-inch tube pan by greasing and flouring.

  2. Combine flour, sugar, softened butter, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, salt, baking powder, and baking soda; beat on low until moistened, then beat on medium for 3 minutes.

  3. Spoon batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

  4. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  5. While the cake bakes, combine sugar, butter, water, and vanilla in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring until butter melts without boiling.

  6. Once baked, place the cake in the pan on a rack and pierce it thoroughly with a fork.

  7. Pour the hot butter glaze over the warm cake.

  8. Allow the cake to stand for 5 to 10 minutes until the glaze is absorbed.

  9. Invert the cake onto a plate, cool, and serve, optionally dusted with confectioner's sugar.
