Classic Cornbread Dressing

A classic, old-fashioned cornbread dressing is flavored with dried herbs, onion, celery, butter, and optional diced chicken.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F and grease a large, shallow baking pan.

  2. Combine cornbread and white breadcrumbs in a large mixing bowl.

  3. Sauté onion and celery in butter over medium heat until tender.

  4. Add the sautéed vegetables and butter to the cornbread mixture. Stir in enough chicken broth to moisten, optional diced chicken, and seasonings.

  5. Taste and adjust seasonings, then mix in beaten eggs until blended.

  6. Spread the mixture in the prepared pan, cover tightly with foil, and bake for 25 minutes.

  7. Uncover the pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes more.
