Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F and butter a 3-quart baking dish.

  2. Melt 6 ounces butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then add onions and celery; cook for 5 minutes until tender.

  3. Combine cubed bread, sautéed vegetables, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Gradually add at least 2 cups chicken stock until the bread is well moistened.

  4. Taste and adjust seasonings, then stir in eggs until blended.

  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.

  6. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes; then uncover and bake for another 30-35 minutes until browned and an internal temperature of 165 F is reached.
