Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  2. Cook macaroni according to package directions, then drain, rinse with hot water, and set aside.

  3. Butter a 2-quart baking dish.

  4. Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat; stir in flour until smooth and bubbly.

  5. Stir in dry mustard, salt, and pepper.

  6. Gradually add milk and cream, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.

  7. Add cheese, cooking and stirring until melted.

  8. Combine the cooked macaroni and sauce, then transfer to the prepared baking dish.

  9. Toss breadcrumbs with melted butter in a small bowl.

  10. Sprinkle the casserole with buttered breadcrumbs and bake for 25 minutes, or until hot, bubbly, and lightly browned.
