Classic and Easy Chocolate Cake
A classic two-layer chocolate cake features an extra-rich chocolate flavor, achieved by using boiling water to bloom the cocoa powder.

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 F.

Butter and flour two 9-inch cake pans, lining bottoms with parchment paper.

Sift flour, sugar, and cocoa powder in a large bowl, then whisk in salt, baking powder, and baking soda.

In a separate bowl, combine and whisk milk, eggs, oil, vanilla, and boiling water.

Stir wet ingredients into the dry mixture until just combined.

Pour batter into prepared pans and bake.

Bake for about 27-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes on a wire rack, then remove from pans and cool completely.

Trim cooled cakes if desired. Place one layer on a stand, frost, add the second layer top-side down, and finish with remaining frosting.
