Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F for Bundt/tube cakes or 375 F for layer cakes.

  2. Butter and flour a Bundt, tube, or multiple round cake pans.

  3. Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together; set aside.

  4. Cream butter until light, then gradually beat in sugar until fluffy. Incorporate vanilla, then eggs one at a time, beating well after each.

  5. Alternately add the sifted flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with flour, until smooth without overbeating.

  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan(s).

  7. Bake Bundt/tube cakes at 350 F for 55-60 minutes, or until done. Cool in pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a rack.

  8. Bake layer cakes at 375 F for 25-30 minutes, or until done.

  9. For glaze, combine powdered sugar, melted butter, 2 tablespoons milk/cream, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; beat until smooth, adding more milk for desired drizzling consistency.

  10. For layer cakes, apply your preferred frosting.
