Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

  2. Prepare a 9x13 baking pan by buttering and flouring, or lining with parchment/foil leaving a 2-inch overhang, then spray with non-stick spray.

  3. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

  4. Melt butter and chocolate chips over simmering water; cool slightly, then stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.

  5. Combine the melted mixture with the dry ingredients; pour batter into the prepared pan.

  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few crumbs; cool completely before removing from the pan using the overhang.

  7. Slice the brownies with two horizontal cuts and then diagonal cuts to form tree shapes.

  8. Stir green food coloring into vanilla frosting to achieve the desired shade.

  9. Transfer the colored frosting to a piping bag and apply in a zig-zag pattern over each brownie tree.

  10. Insert a pretzel stick into each tree's widest part for a trunk and decorate with holiday sprinkles.
