Chocolate-Dipped Orangettes

Homemade candied orange peel is prepared and coated in dark chocolate to create an elegant dessert.

Instructions

  1. Start boiling water in a small saucepan. Prepare 3-inch long, 3/4-inch wide strips of orange peel.

  2. Simmer the orange peels in the boiling water for 10 minutes, then drain and rinse with cold water; repeat this boiling and rinsing process two more times.

  3. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water, then bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture slightly reduces, about 5 minutes.

  4. Add the blanched orange peels to the sugar syrup and continue to simmer for 15 minutes.

  5. Transfer the candied orange peel to a wire drying rack and let it sit undisturbed for 45 minutes.

  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Melt dark chocolate in a double boiler over simmering water.

  7. Dip two-thirds of each candied orange strip into the melted chocolate, then place it on the prepared baking sheet.

  8. Allow the chocolate to set completely before serving.
