Cheese, Onion, and Potato Filled Pasty Recipe

Instructions

Start boiling lightly salted water.

Preheat the oven to 400 F (200 C).

Combine flour, shortening, baking powder, and salt; rub until sandy.

Gradually add water, mixing to form a non-sticky dough.

Form into a ball, wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.

Mix and refrigerate mustard and grated cheese.

Peel and chunk potatoes; add to boiling water.

Peel and wedge onions; add to potatoes after 10 minutes. Cook 8 more minutes until potatoes are soft.

Drain potatoes and onions; return to pan. Add butter and milk, then lightly crush.

Stir in the cheese and mustard mixture.

Roll out pastry and cut two circles.

Spoon filling onto one half of each pastry circle.

Make egg wash with beaten egg and a pinch of salt.

Brush pastry edges with egg wash, then fold over and crimp to seal.

Place pasties on a floured baking sheet and bake for 40 minutes.
